Description

The Evodent Atlas Dental Typodont is a full-arch training model with individually removable push-fit teeth. Students can pull out a tooth, practice or examine it, and push the tooth back into position with no tooth screws and no screwdriver required.

Atlas is available in two configurations:

  • Root Canal Teeth: Designed for endodontic and root canal practice using removable RCT training teeth with an apex
  • Standard Teeth: Designed for general dental training, demonstrations and patient education

For students learning endodontics, the Root Canal Teeth version provides an important advantage over practicing only on isolated teeth: the training tooth remains positioned within a complete maxillary and mandibular arch, giving better context for tooth position, access and orientation.

When a root canal training tooth has been used, it can be removed and replaced with Evodent Atlas Root Canal Replacement Teeth, available separately. Atlas can be used as a tabletop model or with compatible Evodent FE and DP articulators, which are sold separately. It can also be incorporated into a compatible screw-type phantom head setup.

Root Canal Typodont for Hands-On Endodontic Practice

Understanding root canal treatment in theory is very different from performing an endodontic exercise on a tooth positioned within a dental arch. The Atlas Root Canal Teeth version is designed to give students a reusable full-arch setup for:

  • Pre-clinical root canal training
  • Endodontic student practice
  • Understanding tooth and root orientation
  • Practicing on teeth with an apex
  • Repeating exercises on replacement teeth
  • Working on teeth within a full dental arch
  • Classroom demonstrations
  • Endodontic workshops
  • Independent student practice

The tooth can be worked on while positioned in the arch and removed when required for inspection or replacement. After a training tooth has been used, replace it with the corresponding Evodent Atlas Root Canal Replacement Teeth instead of replacing the complete typodont. This makes Atlas particularly useful for students who need repeated hands-on practice rather than a model intended only for demonstration.

Two Tooth Configurations Available

Evodent Atlas is available with two tooth options.

Root Canal Teeth

Choose the Root Canal Teeth version if your main requirement is:

  • Endodontic training
  • Root canal practice
  • RCT student exercises
  • Teeth with an apex
  • Repeated practice using replacement RCT teeth
  • Endodontic demonstrations
  • Root canal patient education

This is the recommended configuration for students specifically looking to improve their root canal understanding and hands-on practice.

Standard Teeth

Choose the Standard Teeth version for:

  • General dental teaching
  • Tooth identification
  • Dentition demonstrations
  • Tooth removal demonstrations
  • Basic dental student training
  • Patient education
  • General classroom use

Both versions use the same convenient push-fit removable-tooth concept.

Push-Fit Removable Teeth – No Screws, No Screwdriver

Every Atlas tooth is individually removable using a simple push-fit system. To remove a tooth, pull it from the socket. To install or replace it, position the tooth correctly and push it back into place. This means:

  • No individual tooth screws
  • No screwdriver required
  • Faster tooth replacement between exercises
  • Individual teeth can be removed for examination
  • Used RCT teeth can be replaced without dismantling the model
  • Teeth can be shown separately during teaching or patient education

For root canal training, replacement teeth are available separately as Evodent Atlas Root Canal Replacement Teeth.

Advantages of Push Fit Design

The push-fit design makes it easier to:

  • Replace a tooth after root canal practice
  • Change individual RCT training teeth
  • Remove a tooth for closer examination
  • Show the root outside the model
  • Demonstrate tooth removal
  • Compare different teeth
  • Prepare the model for the next training exercise
  • Use the model repeatedly across training sessions

Evodent Atlas Root Canal Replacement Teeth are available separately, allowing students and training centres to replace the teeth they use most frequently without replacing the complete typodont.

Root Canal Teeth with Apex

The Root Canal configuration is supplied with dedicated teeth intended for endodontic practice. The teeth include an apex, giving students a complete rooted tooth form rather than a crown-only training component. This is useful when learning and demonstrating:

  • Root canal concepts
  • Crown-to-root relationship
  • Tooth and root orientation
  • Apical anatomy
  • Endodontic access and practice
  • Root canal treatment sequence
  • Tooth-specific endodontic exercises

The removable design also allows students to take a training tooth out after an exercise and examine the crown, root and apical portion separately.

Why Practice Root Canals in a Full Dental Arch?

Practicing on an isolated endodontic tooth teaches the procedure on the tooth. Practicing with that tooth positioned inside a typodont also gives the student the context of the surrounding dentition.

  • Which tooth is being treated
  • Its position within the arch
  • Adjacent teeth
  • Upper and lower dentition
  • Occlusal relationship
  • Crown and root orientation
  • Access to different regions of the mouth

This becomes even more useful when Atlas is combined with an articulator or compatible phantom-head setup. It allows students to move from simply holding an individual tooth to practicing with the tooth positioned as part of a dental arch.

Articulator & Phantom Head Compatibility

Evodent Atlas can be used with compatible:

  • Evodent FE Articulator: Compatible; sold separately
  • Evodent DP Articulator: Compatible; sold separately
  • Compatible screw-type phantom heads: Yes
  • Tabletop use: Yes
  • Magnetic plate included: No, not with the current version

The articulator is not included with the typodont and must be purchased separately.

The current Atlas configuration does not include a magnetic mounting plate. If magnetic phantom-head mounting is required, check the current product configuration before ordering, as supplied configurations may change.

Useful for Tooth Removal & Extraction Demonstration

Because every tooth is push-fit and removable, Atlas is also useful for demonstrating tooth removal and extraction concepts. A student, educator or dentist can:

  • Identify the tooth to be removed
  • Pull the tooth from the model
  • Show the complete tooth and root
  • Discuss root orientation
  • Compare teeth after removal
  • Explain the basic concept of extraction to a patient

This should be considered a tooth-removal and extraction demonstration function. The push-fit mechanism is intentionally designed for easy removal and does not attempt to reproduce the resistance of a real clinical extraction.

Patient Education – Make Root Canal Treatment Easier to Explain

Atlas is not only a student practice model. The visible roots and removable teeth make it a useful patient education dental model, particularly when explaining root canal treatment or extraction. A dentist can use the model to show:

  • Which tooth requires treatment
  • Where the tooth sits within the arch
  • The visible crown and the root below it
  • Basic root canal anatomy
  • The root and apical region
  • Why root canal treatment is performed inside the tooth
  • Which tooth is planned for extraction
  • What the complete tooth looks like after removal

The tooth can be physically removed from the model and shown to the patient, which is often easier to understand than pointing to a two-dimensional diagram. For root canal consultations, the Root Canal Teeth version is particularly useful because the discussion can be centred around an actual removable RCT training tooth within a complete dental model.

Who Is Evodent Atlas For?

Atlas is particularly useful for:

  • Dental students learning endodontics
  • Students who need additional root canal practice
  • Pre-clinical dental training
  • Dental colleges
  • Endodontic departments
  • Private dental training institutes
  • Root canal workshops and courses
  • Dentists explaining RCT to patients
  • Dentists explaining extractions
  • Dental educators and demonstrators
  • Clinics needing a reusable patient education model

For students struggling to translate root canal theory into hands-on practice, the Root Canal Teeth version is the key Atlas configuration.

FAQs – Evodent Atlas Root Canal Typodont

Q. What is the Evodent Atlas Root Canal Typodont designed for?
A. Atlas is designed primarily for dental students who want to practice root canal procedures on removable RCT teeth positioned within a complete dental arch. It can also be used for dental teaching and patient education.

Q. Are all the teeth removable?
A. Yes. All teeth use a push-fit mounting system. Simply pull a tooth out to remove it and push the tooth back into the appropriate socket to install it. No tooth screws or screwdriver are required.

Q. What is different about the Root Canal Teeth version?
A. The Root Canal Teeth version uses dedicated RCT training teeth with an apex and is intended for endodontic and root canal practice. A Standard Teeth configuration is also available for general dental training and patient education.

Q. Are replacement root canal teeth available?
A. Yes. Evodent Atlas Root Canal Replacement Teeth are available separately. Used RCT training teeth can be pulled out and replaced individually, so there is no need to replace the complete typodont.

Q. Can Atlas be used with an articulator?
A. Yes. Atlas is compatible with Evodent FE and DP articulators. The articulator is not included and must be purchased separately.

Q. Can Evodent Atlas be mounted on a phantom head?
A. Yes. It can be used with a compatible screw-type phantom-head setup. The current version does not include a magnetic mounting plate, so magnetic mounting should not be assumed unless the current product configuration specifically includes one.

Q. Can dentists use Atlas for patient education?
A. Yes. The clear body, visible roots and removable teeth make Atlas useful for explaining root canal treatment, tooth position, root anatomy and extraction concepts to patients.

Q. Can the model be used to practice extractions?
A. The teeth can be removed individually, making Atlas useful for tooth-removal and extraction demonstrations. Because the teeth are intentionally push-fit, it is not designed to reproduce the resistance or force of a real clinical extraction.
